A Message from the Department Head

Welcome to the Zachry Department of Civil Engineering at Texas A&M. We invite you to look through our website and learn more about our academic programs, our students and faculty, and current research in the department. This is an exciting period for Civil Engineering at A&M. In addition to our concurrent campaigns to build a Culture of Excellence and a Community of Scholars, we have been engaged in an active period of faculty expansion, part of the Look 100 initiative. The 2007-08 academic year promises to be an exciting one as well, as we continue to grow our faculty, improve our academic programs, and move toward our goal of being one of the top CE programs in the country.

Our students are highly recruited and our graduates are widely regarded as among the most work-ready young engineers in the country. We are ranked 7th (undergraduate) and 8th (graduate) among all civil engineering programs at public institutions. Our faculty are recognized both nationally and internationally for their achievements – eight have received NSF CAREER awards since 1998, three are members of the National Academy of Engineering (NAE), and more than 25 serve as editors or editorial board members for leading international journals. The CE faculty at Texas A&M are recognized for excellence in all aspects of scholarship: teaching, research, and professional service. With 70 faculty, 1100 undergraduate students, and 340 graduate students, the Zachry Department of Civil Engineering at Texas A&M is the largest CE program in the country. Few programs have the combination of resources, faculty expertise, scope of programs, facilities, and degree offerings that we have in Civil Engineering at Texas A&M.

We welcome prospective students, current students, former students, industry partners, professional colleagues, and friends and hope you find this site helpful. Please feel free to contact the department with any questions, comments, or suggestions. We appreciate your interest and your input.

Come visit us and see how the Aggie Spirit and the Zachry Department of Civil Engineering come together to create a dynamic academic environment and prepare some of the best civil engineers in the country.
