Check out the various student organizations related to the civil engineering department and the civil engineering profession.
- American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE)
The American Society of Civil Engineers, founded in 1852, is the oldest national engineering society in the United States. ASCE was formed to enhance the quality of life through the advancement of professional knowledge and by improving the practice of civil engineering. ASCE currently has over 120,000 members, including over 15,000 student members nation wide.
- American Water Resources Association (AWRA)
The mission of the American Water Resources Association (AWRA) is to advance multidisciplinary water resources management and research. The Texas A&M University Chapter supports the national AWRA vision to be recognized as the pre-eminent multidisciplinary association for information exchange, professional development and education about water resources and related issues. On the local-level, the Texas A&M Chapter commits itself to extending these ideals to benefit the Texas A&M community and the State of Texas.
- Chi Epsilon (XE)
Dedicated to the purpose of maintaining and promoting the status of Civil Engineering as an ideal profession, Chi Epsilon was organized to recognize the characteristics of the individual Civil Engineer deemed to be fundamental to the successful pursuit of an engineering career, and to aid in the development of those characteristics in the Civil Engineering student.
- GeoInstitute (TAMU G-I)
The Texas A&M Student Chapter of the GeoInstitute promotes the field of Geotechnical engineering to the students of Texas A&M University through social and educational activities. These activities include student and professional presentations, site visits, national competitions, hands-on activities, and social functions.
- Institute of Transportation Engineers (ITE)
Founded in 1930, the Institute of Transportation Engineers (ITE) is an international organization of transportation professionals. ITE's membership represents both the public and private sectors with professionals whose backgrounds range from transportation and traffic engineering to transportation planning and safety engineering.
- Marine Technology Society/Society of Naval Architects and Marine Engineers (MTS & SNAME)
Two Texas A&M student chapters of national professional societies are currently available for Ocean Engineering students. The Marine Technology Society (MTS) student chapter was formed in 1977 and the Society of Naval Architect and Marine Engineers (SNAME) was formed in 1985. Both student chapter organizations have their own by-laws and are a university-approved organization.
- OTRC Graduate Student Forum
To promote the inter-disciplinary, multidisciplinary spirit of the Offshore Technology Research Center by having all students involved in the different research projects exchanging information on their work. While serving as the communications link between center management and the students.
- Structural Engineers Association of Texas (SEAoT)
The Structural Engineers Association of Texas (SEAoT) Chapter at Texas A & M University offers opportunities for both graduate and undergraduate students to interact with structural design professionals as well as present and discuss current research on a peer to peer basis.
