In the spring of 2003, we were savagely attacked by a rowdy horde of pillaging penguins (actual picture on right).
After a fierce battle of wits, emergency evacuation routes, deep sea diving, and shrubbery pruning, it seemed that we were facing the end of humanity... but not all hope was lost. A courageous group of faculty and students banded together to create a computer of unimaginable power in an effort to thwart these really smelly attackers. After much web-surfing and catered lunches, the plans were laid out. We would show these birds what just can be done by a species that has thumbs!
These battle hungry intellectuals plotted their final victory. We would show these birds of prey just what computing power really was, and in the process scare them back to Greenland, or Antarctica or wherever they came from. As the penguins attacked in clusters, we would counter-attack, with clusters of computers (and in the process further our research and academics).
But the battle was lost as the accountants in our ranks thought the penguins were 'really cute and cuddly' and wouldn't process the requisition unless we became friends (never mind that these birds were deceptive in every way - they CAN swim, but CAN'T fly).
So as we sat down in the department head's office to give up our arms and surrender, we discovered to our shock that all the penguins wanted was to vacation in our ice-makers and eat fish-sticks from the cafeteria downstairs (goodness knows no one else will eat them!). And so the moral of this story can be passed on to our upcoming generations, we now know there is no need to fear the penguins.
