Transportation program interacts and shares resources with the Texas Transportation Institute (TTI). TTI provides our faculty and graduate students access to research expertise and the state-of-the-art research facilities including the Translink ® Research Center and the Center for Transportation Safety (CTS). TransLink® is a national, multi-modal, multi-agency public/private program of research, development and professional education designed to advance surface transportation system management. The labs of the TransLink® Center develop concepts and systems to integrate information into existing and future transportation management systems. The Center for Transportation Safety is home to special resources for researchers including a fully interactive driving simulator and pedestrian simulator. In addition, TTI has an experimental research and testing facility located 10 miles northwest of the University's main campus.
Transportation faculty and students also use the "real world" as an important lab for education and research. We collect data of existing roadways, traffic flow, and traffic control devices, reduce and analyze the data and report on the findings. Our faculty and students have access to most conventional and the state-of-the-art field data collection devices such as traffic classifiers, GPS units, and retroreflectometers.
